I Don't Know

How much DON’T you know about your student population?

By Chris Chumley

Many FinAid offices and Universities are making crucial decisions on enrollment strategies, efficiency tactics, and student experience initiatives based on FinAid assumptions, not data and insights. And that needs to change.

A constant struggle for insights

Over the last few years, our partners in FinAid have explained how difficult it can be to make sense of all of the data flowing through the office. Buried in this data are actionable insights that can have impact University-wide, but those insights need to be unearthed. More than that, they need to be unearthed in an easy, mobile, personalized way. We developed CampusMetrics to do just that.

Insightful and actionable FinAid data

We started with ISIR analytics, and focused on creating a comprehensive library of pre-built “Insights” that every financial aid office needs. These insights will help financial aid professionals understand their student populations better, helping to drive enrollment, make policy decisions, or adjust services to meet student needs. You’ll gain instant insight into your application volume, Pell distribution, geography mapping of ISIRs, and more. Within each insight customers have the ability to change filters to pivot charts, allowing them to drill down into detailed data for exporting. The Insights that currently exist in the gallery are detailed below:

  • ISIR Volume Year Over Year
  • ISIR Volume by High School
  • ISIR Geography
  • ISIR Volume by Grade Level
  • ISIR Volume of Incoming Vs. Returning Students
  • Average Number of Transactions Per Student Received
  • Students with Verification Vs. Non-Verification
  • Verification Group Breakdown
  • V5 Status Breakdown
  • Pell Eligible Student Distribution
  • Pell Lifetime Eligibility Distribution
  • Applications by Age Group
  • Applications by Gender
  • IRS Request Flag Breakdown
  • IRS Display Flag Breakdown
  • Pell Eligibility Year-Over-Year
  • Number in Household Distribution
  • Prior Loan Usage
  • Loan Eligibility Distribution
  • Subsequent ISIRs by Source Type
  • High School or Equivalent Percentages
  • Average Income Year-over-Year

Crowdsourcing: Leveraging your colleagues’ ideas

The Insight Gallery is built to grow and expand organically, meaning the Financial Aid Community has the power to drive Insight Gallery content through direct feedback and curation. Users can explore charts, favorite them, rate them and have real-time visibility into how others in the community are rating them. Not sure what analysis of your ISIRs you should be doing? No problem. CampusMetrics harnesses the collective wisdom of everyone in the community to fuel development of additional Insights. All institutions will instantly, seamlessly receive new additions to their Insight Gallery. We’re big fans of feedback and crowdsourcing, and we’d like to know which of the insights we listed above are you most interested in. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts in this two-question survey. Watch for more information about analytics and CampusMetrics throughout the month, and reach out to us with any questions you may have.
